Huasun Signs the Initiative on Further Improving Measurement and Testing Capabilities for Photovoltaic Cell Efficiency by China Photovoltaic Industry Association

2024.08.05

In recent years, the rapid technological advancements in China's photovoltaic industry have significantly accelerated the development of high-efficiency n-type cell technologies, including TOPCon, heterojunction (HJT), and xBC. However, these advancements have introduced challenges in accurately measuring cell efficiency due to variations in cell structure, production processes, testing equipment, traceability mechanisms, and cell capacitance. Such discrepancies have led to increased data deviations among testing institutions, which may affect the formulation and revision of national industry policies, fair competition among technologies, and the international credibility of China's PV cell efficiency values.

In response to the industry's evolving challenges and under the guidance of the Electronic Information Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, the China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA) convened the "Efficiency Calibration of Photovoltaic Cells Seminar " on May 30, 2024. The objective of this seminar was to ensure that photovoltaic cell efficiency measurements, particularly for n-type cells, accurately reflect their true performance. The seminar emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among enterprises and industry stakeholders to enhance measurement accuracy. It called on measurement and testing institutions to bolster their capabilities, advance measurement technologies, improve personnel training, and refine integrity and benchmarking practices. This initiative aims to address and mitigate irresponsible claims of new world records in testing efficiency. Subsequently, CPIA, in conjunction with industry experts, developed the "Initiative on Further Improving Measurement and Testing Capabilities for Photovoltaic Cell Efficiency," which was formally introduced at the "PV Industry Supply Chain Development (Wenzhou) Forum 2024" on July 24.

As a leading company in the heterojunction (HJT) sector, Huasun Energy has consistently promoted innovation and standardization in photovoltaic technology. In response to the recently released initiative, Huasun took the lead in endorsing it, underscoring its commitment to self-regulation and the high-quality development of the PV industry. By signing the initiative, Huasun not only showcases its technical expertise and responsibility but also sets a benchmark for the industry, fostering healthy and positive growth across the photovoltaic sector.

Initiative on Further Improving Measurement and Testing Capabilities for Photovoltaic Cell Efficiency

In recent years, the rapid technological advancements in China's photovoltaic industry have significantly accelerated the development of high-efficiency n-type cell technologies, including TOPCon, HJT, and xBC.

To address these challenges and to ensure the accuracy, scientific rigor, standardization, and consistency of photovoltaic cell efficiency calibration, the China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA) has issued the following initiatives:

1. Strengthen Traceability: Ensure the authoritative traceability of solar cells to the International System of Units (SI) without interruption. Efficiency measurements and public announcements should be traceable to the SI throughout business and promotional activities.

2. Enhance Comparative Testing and Technical Exchange: Promote comprehensive comparative testing and technical exchanges between enterprises to reduce testing uncertainty and collaboratively maintain a robust metrological testing environment.

3. Upgrade Calibration Capabilities: Improve the metrological calibration capabilities of enterprise laboratory and production line testing equipment to ensure consistency between mass production efficiency tests and standard cell modules.

4. Align Test Efficiency with Real-World Performance: Ensure that photovoltaic cell test efficiencies align with the reasonable range of photovoltaic module power projections.

5. Establish Expert Review Group: Form a technical expert group under CPIA's guidance. Prior to the public release of any new cell efficiency test value exceeding the industry-recognized authoritative record for the same technology type, obtain validation from at least five third-party technical experts regarding the accuracy, scientific basis, and rationality of the new value.

6. Advance Testing Standards and Training: Facilitate the development and revision of relevant testing standards, and enhance the training of technicians in testing and metrology.
