On December 3, 2024, Huasun Energy hosted a session on heterojunction (HJT) solar technology at the BloombergNEF Summit in Shanghai. Led by Xiaohua (Jimmy) Xu, Chairman and CEO, and Ke Wang, General Manager of the Intelligent Energy Center, the session focused on the topic of "Vertical Installation of Heterojunction Modules in Photovoltaic Applications." The discussions provided forward-looking perspectives on manufacturing, application, and market trends, and highlighted how vertical installations can drive innovation in the solar energy sector.
Xu Xiaohua addressed the challenge of "curtailment of solar power" in China, emphasizing the need for distributed solar in transportation systems to integrate energy and mobility, transform business models, and enhance national energy security. Xu also highlighted the role of AgriPV, an innovative PV application integrating agriculture through to protect the environment and boost rural incomes.
Ke Wang pointed out the economic challenges of traditional solar power, such as negative electricity prices during peak times. In contrast, vertical installation systems align better with electricity market price curves, improving project economics and reducing grid pressure.
To meet the growing needs of vertical installations, Huasun launched its ultra-high bifacial HJT modules with steel-framed design. Built with Huasun Himalaya G12 cells, these modules retain the core attributes of Huasun's HJT technology—high power, high energy yield, high conversion efficiency, and high reliability, along with low degradation, low temperature coefficient, low carbon footprint, and low electricity costs. The steel frame further enhances durability and corrosion resistance, making these modules well-suited for a wide range of installation environments.
Thanks to the high efficiency of HJT modules, those PV projects utilizing Huasun HJT modules for vertical installations demonstrate significant advantages in various economic metrics. Taking the Gansu (China) vertical application solution (DC 74.62 MW) as an example, compared to TOPCon modules of the same specifications, the Huasun 720 W HJT modules can increase the first-year energy yield by 15.6%, save 1 ha of land, reduce BOS (Balance of System) costs by 0.293 US cents/W, and ultimately lower the LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy) by 16.38%. Demonstration sites in Haikou and Xuancheng of China also show that Huasun modules deliver 13% higher energy output per kW than TOPCon modules.
In AgriPV sector, Huasun has partnered with Germany’s Next2Sun on several vertical applications. A notable example is a 5.2 MW vertical AgriPV project in Merzig-Wellingen, Germany. In this project, vertical installations improve performance by reducing snow and dust impact and capturing reflected sunlight, contributing to the optimization and transformation of the local ecological farm’s energy structure.
The heterojunction roundtable session by Huasun Energy at BNEF Summit Shanghai 2024 enhanced participants' understanding of vertical installations in energy-transport integration and the AgriPV sectors. Attendees showed strong enthusiasm for Huasun’s ultra-high bifaciality steel-framed HJT modules. Looking forward, Huasun plans to continue expanding technology boundaries of technology and applications, driving the global shift toward more efficient and cost-effective clean energy solutions, while revitalizing traditional industries.
