Heterojunction (HJT) technology has been introduced to the market in 1997, and after more than 20 years of iteration, it has emerged as a rising star in the global solar market in recent years. On August 21st, 2024, Huasun Energy teamed up with its European partner Solartricity, and pv magazine, an authoritative PV media, to discuss how to inject innovative vitality into the European and global PV supply chain through highly efficient and reliable HJT products.
Christian Comes, Director of Business Development Europe at Huasun, began by presenting an example of HJT modules for residential rooftops in Osaka, Japan, highlighting that HJT modules experience significantly lower UV-induced degradation compared to other mainstream technologies. He also addressed the challenges that high temperatures and humidity would negatively affect module performance. To combat this, Huasun has introduced an innovative encapsulation technology combining a light conversion film with PIB sealing. This advancement effectively reduces UV-induced degradation, enhances resistance to water vapor corrosion, and ensures long-term stability and high efficiency in power generation.
As a leader in the HJT industry, Huasun has introduced its zero busbar (0BB) HJT technology this year to meet the global demand for high-efficiency, high-reliability, and high-stability photovoltaic modules. Christian Comes highlighted that the 0BB design increases the cell's irradiated area, thereby enhancing light conversion efficiency. Additionally, the process of welding before lamination used in the 0BB modules provides superior ribbon adhesion and strengthened resistance to hot spots. Test results demonstrate that Huasun's 0BB modules outperform conventional SMBB modules in extreme conditions, underscoring the company's product reliability and research capabilities.
Looking ahead, Comes is confident that HJT technology, with its high efficiency, power generation, and reliability, will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of photovoltaics. He also noted that HJT cells, with their unique structure, are ideally suited for perovskite tandem cells. This combination positions HJT technology to lead advancements in the "HJT + perovskite" tandem development, offering a potential competitive edge in the industry.
Chris Williams, UK Sales Manager at Solartricity, commended the exceptional power generation performance of HJT technology. Despite the challenges Huasun faces as a newcomer in the Irish and UK markets—such as customer acceptance and stiff competition—its extensive experience in HJT research, development, and mass production has instilled strong confidence in Solartricity. The effective integration of resources has quickly garnered positive feedback in the distributed PV market.
According to Solartricity’s data, Huasun’s HJT modules are highly praised by local customers for their efficiency and aesthetic appeal, with shipments showing a significant growth trend.
Huasun always believes that Europe is one of the most important and potential markets its for heterojunction products. The company continues to devote itself to exporting HJT products with high efficiency, high power generation, high bifaciality, high reliability and low carbon emission to the European market. At present, Huasun has landed excellent projects in Bulgaria, Germany, Switzerland and other European markets.
Moving forward, Huasun will remain committed to advancing HJT technology, strengthening collaboration and innovation across the global industry, and delivering more efficient, stable, and cost-effective photovoltaic products. The ultimate goal is to extend the benefits of clean energy to a broader range of users.
